Mary Mowinckle Johnson

Teacher · Eanes Rock Schoolhouse

Teacher at the Eanes Rock Schoolhouse during a long stretch of its operation, and one of the most-cited voices in the Eanes History Center collection. Her letters to Camila and to Dorothy Depwe, along with several oral-history interviews, document the daily life of the school across multiple decades.

Mary Ellen Mowinckle (later Johnson) appears throughout the Eanes History Center collection as both a contributor of letters and a subject of oral-history interviews. She taught at the Eanes Rock Schoolhouse, witnessed and recounted the daily life of its students through the 1930s and 40s, and sustained correspondence with Dorothy Depwe and other Westlake-area historians well into the 1970s. Birth and death dates are not yet recorded; corrections are welcome.
